I had an interesting encounter with a woman at the vet's office today. I'm still sorting out my feelings about it.
Our kitties had to go in for quick appointments - just a couple shots and whatnot. Ideally, I would have run this errand solo, but that was not possible this afternoon.
So, in we marched, 4 of my kiddos and 2 cats in carriers. Everybody was well-behaved, but I suppose it's somewhat unusual to see a parade of a mom, a baby in stroller, a kid in a wheelchair, and 2 others toting pets. I didn't think anything of it until I sat down next to a nice older lady in the waiting area.
She looked at me with wide eyes and announced, "That you have your hands full is the understatement of the day!".
I laughed and shrugged it off, and she proceeded to ask the kids their ages, etc.
All was fine and dandy until the vet tech walked over to talk with her.
"Well," she practically shouted," I'm just talking with this family. It's fascinating!"
?????
All of a sudden I felt like a Smithsonian exhibit and wished that I had at least put on some mascara or something.
I don't really understand what she meant by that. I know lots of people with 4 kids ( I didn't tell her we were missing one). Mine are friendly and can be pretty chatty. Maybe that was it. Or maybe it's that I have the cutest 9-month-old (almost) in the whole, wide world. I'm stumped.
I definitely got the impression she thought we were unusual.
Well, so be it.
I suppose we are somewhat of a spectacle for a variety of reasons. I hope when others look at my face they see the joy I truly feel at having a houseful of blessings and the opportunity to have them at my side for most of my waking hours. I better pay close attention to that. And maybe throw on some lipgloss....
