Gifts to my Husband

When a guy works as hard as my husband, he deserves a little corner of the house to call his own.  2012 was a rough year for him on a variety of fronts.  He's muscled through a great deal of stress personally and professionally, so for his mid-December birthday I decided to create a little 'quiet' space just for him.  He loves his family, works very hard for us, and deserves a place to unwind for a few minutes after work or whenever necessary (and/or possible :).

When we moved into our house, there were so many paint color decisions, I just couldn't muster enough creativity for the den.  So, we just had the painters splash on the same color as most of the first floor.  It was pretty boring, with randomly-placed furniture and pictures.  Here's a before shot:
Not too exciting...
My goal was a room with warm, masculine color, art and pictures meaningful to Eustace, along with a comfy place for him to kick up his feet.

Here's the after:
It's hard to see, but above the computer is a beautiful rendition of St. Eustace.

For Christmas, I chose a gift that some might consider self-serving...  I promise my husband loves to cook and is great at it!  My favorite Saturdays are ones when he not working but at home, confidently flipping pancakes or trying a new spin on scrambled eggs.  There's nothing more attractive than a guy who can produce a perfect omelet.  See this smile?  Proof that this gift is for him and not me.  Does it sound like I'm trying to convince myself?  Anyway, here he is, happily cranking out some of the finest waffles and omelets this side of the Mississippi...

This fun appliance can make waffles and omelets at the same time.  It's already been put to the task 5 or 6 times.  I might even try it out myself someday...
