One should generally refrain from thinking, much less uttering, the following sentence:
Gee, it's been a long time since we've been sick around here!
To do so is a sure-fire guarantee that virus armies will begin marching straight into one's peaceful, healthy abode.
I know this because it happened to me. This week.
Granted, the bug currently making its rounds isn't horrible. Nobody has been completely bed-ridden or hospitalized or even taken to the doctor, for that matter. It's just a sleep-disturbing stuffy-nose, low grade fever kind of a thing...
The worst part is, the baby has it. Such sadness!! Even though his sleep is terribly disrupted by complete blockage of his nasal passages and a croupey nighttime cough, he wakes up smiling. Bless his little heart!!
And I look at him and think how wonderful it is that his once very sick little body can fight a yucky cold like anybody else, and I am so grateful for that.
So, after roughly a week of having kiddos wake us up every couple hours at night to report on their breathing and sleeping troubles, Eustace and I are running on empty.
Here's proof: This evening, I found an unlabeled container full of something unrecognizable in the freezer. I decided it would be dinner, whatever it turned out to be, when it defrosted.
Fortunately, it turned out to be a batch of my husband's chili - yum.
As I look around the house at messes and laundry piling up, I'm trying to keep my chin up and remember that comforting kids and babies is more important than a perfect house. And hopefully we'll be back in the swing of things by Monday....
